I just updated today! Thanks so much, this made the process SO much easier!
-
Awesome. Thanks alot buddy I appreciate it.

Oh, I thought you meant how do you get to the screen I showed at 1:08. There is a link on the video description to the german Korg website. It should be directly to the zip file. In fact, I just clicked the link and it prompted me to save the zip file. The filename is X50_Updater_Win_101.zip. And by the way, this is the same person who uploaded the video. I just made a new account to host all of my music vids. This will be just personal stuff.

Thanks alot for the quick response!
I just ordered mine yesterday, so I'm hoping they have the latest firmware on it. If not, where could I download 1.08?
Thanks again!

Usb to USB. I'm sorry if I made it seem that it was USB to MIDI, while such cables to exist. I wouldn't recommend using it as a live controller through a laptop, USB is too laggy. Firewire is the way to go, but unfortunately the X50 doesn't support the format.

with the keyboard turned off, you hold the Page+ and Page- buttons, then you turn the keyboard on. It'll bring up the update interface.
-
Also, where did you find 1.08? I've looked everywhere..
-
Doesn't the Korg use USB->USB for a MIDI connection? I didn't think it was a USB-> MIDI?
Is that what it is? If so, will I need a MIDI port on my sound card?

gracias, lo compré ya actualizado, pero no lo sabía!!!!!!!

I bought the X50 on March 07, 2009. It came with the firmware version 1.0.1 which is displayed right when it boots. This came with the Favorites menu already. People should not get confused with the version 1.08 discussed here.

As a gigging musician, I own most of the popular keyboards but never bought this one because I couldn't figure out how to do favortes which I need for gigs. I love the fact that it's so portable. Korg really messed up with the implementation of this feature because with favorites, this is a killer small gig rig. They've probably lost a bunch of sales because of it. Anyway, thanks again for your tenacity in discovering this functionality and publishing it!

That can be EASILY done if you have an Synthesizer Rack Module. It can't be done in the X50, not in any way I know how. The X50 has very limited customizability, aside from the included presets. I mean, you can modify those sounds so they all sound unique, but if you're trying to lock the pitch bend on the strings, you'd have to do that from the Prog patch itself, so when it is layered with the Lead sound you won't have to worry about the pitch bend wheel.
-
wow, that was fast! Thanx! i can anulate the pitch bend of the sound from PROG. but, can I make it from COMBI 3:Ed-Filter 1, and in that page desactiving the "JSX/PBend as AMS" square? Because that way is not working with me. maybe there's a problem in the OS. what i want to do is something like Warman does against Alexi Laiho on their duel. Janne triggers a chord, susteins it and use a lead sound to play , but the string chord in the back remains the same even if he moves the pitch wheel
-
There is an assignable effect that locks the pitch bend wheel. I'm having a hard time understand exactly what is wrong with your keyboard... You might be using a sound that has no pitch bend. Look in the config of the combi, and find out which sound doesn't respond to pitch bend. Then, go in prog and load the sound, and see if it responds to pitch bend there. If not, you have to change the effect and make the pitch bend lock go away. hope it helped a little!

Hi! I have a problem with my x50. since i updated my firmware i cant make a combi that has a sound (in a section of the keyboard)wich doesn't respond to the pitch wheel; and another sound (in another section) that does. Please help! by the way, nice vid! (forgive my english)

Tell me about it... I nearly returned this keyboard because it wasn't necessarily ready for live play (even though on the box it says "Play it live or with your computer..." Glad I could help!!

Do you get just 10 Favorites or can you use 3-digit numbering to get 999? Also, can you save a transposed key to a Favorite or is that just a realtime global setting? Thanks!
tshapiro1000 3 years ago
You can only have up to 10 favorites. Each number (0-9) will bring up a selected favorite. As far as transposing goes, if you transpose the actual sound and Write Program, anytime you bring up that sound you will have the transposed effect active. It will not work on any other sound, unless you manually transpose it and write program. Hope this helps!

Congratulations! You are now the planetary authority on this very basic, but ellusive, feature of this keyboard. Thanks a million for publishing this!

Thanks, man. I'm glad I could help. It's such a shame Korg US hasn't done a tutorial or even has any information on their site on how to do this... I had to resort to a FAQ in portuguese which led me to a faq in German, and then I just translated it all =)
