The Jasper Sustainability Club for Youth designed this presentation to be presented at the Living Future unConference in Vancouver in April of 2011.
The term Educational Sprawl relates to our contention that unsustainable (sprawled) communities are a result of the traditional school system.
The Jasper Sustainability Club for Youth is a class at the Jasper High School in Jasper, Alberta currently made up of 24 students between the ages of 16 and 18.
If you liked the presentation or you would like to get in touch with the group to discuss youth engagement in a sustainable project, feel free to contact us at jasperscy@gmail.com or contact our teacher on twitter: @adamrobb . We're open to any project where you want to really engage youth and really listen to what we have to say.
All of the illustrations were completed by Geoff Dick, one of the students in the group and the first presenter of this presentation. The other presenters (voices) are in order as follows: Jessica Karpo, Jason Zaffino, Imogen Jenkins and Theresa Westhaver.
Hope you enjoy!
Great video, but I have to say I disagree to an extent. Conformity isn't a bad thing when it comes to certain areas of education. When it comes to the math and sciences there is only one write answer; our ability to find that answer comes the creativity. The big issues I see constantly at school is the lack of supporting collaboration and forced timed testing. As an engineering student, I can safely say the majority of the students think they can solve problems in a cubical all day for a living
