I actually do cycle in the area and I find the traffic is slower and its easier and less dangerous than before the new road layout; the buses are more frequent than 5 years a go; every bus I've taken in the last 6 months has been on time. People who stick to their cars shouldnt speculate about things they dont experience. The idea that buses create more fumes than cars is not even worth discussing.
Why don't the oxford green people do something useful like go and protest against the vast mosque outside my house. That would be useful. A call to prayer that they want to broadcast through loudspeakers is most definitely pollution.
As for the area they turned into a "cyclist friendly hotspot" it is at least 10x more dangerous than before. I definitely never had any intention of cycling anywhere before, but now I definitely won't as I'm likely to get hit by a bus. As for public transportation, there are hundreds of EMPTY buses. Busses create far more fumes than cars. All of the politicians here are abysmal.
I live in this area. THEY HAVE SCREWED IT UP. Oxford, and indeed many other cities, have managed to waste loads of money to create a recycling policy that brings rats to the area. They can talk about this green garbage all they want, but if this is either the most important thing on their mind or their best attempt at achieving green status, I AM NOT IMPRESSED.
you're actually making a serious point there. we really do need more trees. i remember dr derek wall once saying trees were "the world's lungs", nice analogy!
