I had a Geography teacher at my college - Guildford - who was previously at Alton (assuming this is the Hampshire Alton?). This is crazy, by the way. I'm assuming it's a collection of stills, not showing the moving of the chairs by other people?

Yep you are correct, this is Alton in Hampshire. Everything in this film is made from still images taken with a digital SLR that we borrowed from photography, every time they needed to move they moved the chairs themselves, got into their pose, the picture was taken and it kept going from there, it took a long time to do.
