Gun Control Act (1968)

Pub. L. No. 90-618, 82 Stat. 1213 - Chapter 44 of Title 18, United States Code
United States federal law that regulates the firearms industry and firearms owners. The Gun Control Act of 1968 focuses on regulating interstate commerce in firearms by prohibiting interstate firearms transfers except among licensed manufacturers, dealers and importers

GCA is Title I of the U.S. federal firearms laws

Enforced by the ATF

Added a "sporting purpose" test which bans import of military rifles

Where we get:

The 10 restrictions on firearm ownership (the questions on Form 4473)

Created the FFL License System, Gunsmiths and Manufacturers

Required Serial Numbers on Firearms

Prohibits persons under 18 from possessing handguns or handgun ammunition

Effectively prohibited the direct mail order of firearms

so if your buying a firearm form someone in your same state you dont have to have a FFL01 to ship it to your house?

- no need for an FFL between two legal possessors in the same state

- an FFL can not ship to a non FFL

I'm happy to see you guys taking the time to tell people about these laws and a brief overview of what they mean. You would be surprised of how many gun owners that have never heard of the Gun Control Act of 1986 or any other anti-gun bills.

Votes do matter. Next time you go to the ballet box be sure of what that person supports and doesn't support so other anti-gun bills don't continue to pass and infringe upon our rights.

They banned the unlicensed sale of full autos in 1934,the only person that done damage with a full-auto was a corrupt cop. Why do they need to add fuel to the flame in 1968? the 1934 law was doing great no class 3 civilian has ever went crazy with one, only the gangsters like Al-Capone, The Purple gang, etc. But no law abiding citizen has ever done damage with a full-auto. sometimes I wonder if politicians ever lived in the suburbs....
