A pub with an extraordinary interior decorated in mable and bronze. The finest example of early 20th century Art Nouveau design in London.Built in 1905 by architect H.Fuller Clark and sculptor Henry Poole on the site of a 13th century Dominican Priory.Incredibly this pub was due for demolition in the 1960's but was saved by a public campaign led by Sir John Betjeman.
Fascinating pub and gorgeous art nouveau design

Beautiful pub but such a shame that the designer did not seem to do any research at all into what Black Friars actually wore! Not a single one of the 'monks' depicted in the pub are Dominican friars.

As an American who is enchanted by English Arts and Crafts design and can't afford London's prices, I want to thank you for putting this mini tour of a glorious example of the above.
