Wow, I remember this from when I was a kid in the late '60s. Its hip, mod, colorful, heartfelt message resonated with me, even though I was a boy. I wish I had been more involved in social groups like this — the YMCA, Boys Club or the Boy Scouts for me — though I was in the Cub Scouts briefly but quit before I could go very deeply with it. For you find out who you are only through interaction with other people, and these great social organizations foster just that. Thanks for bringing this back.
This is the kind of public service announcement you usually saw either late at night, early in the morning, or on Saturday/Sunday weekend schedules. Occasionally, a network would show this (and other PSA's) at the end of their prime-time programs as a "public service", just before their network I.D. This is apparently from 1968. Peter Thomas is the closing announcer.
this is one of the first advertisements of it's kind. color television was only just becoming popular. the style is the same as many other presentations of the era. the vietnam war had been going for about ten years, but was conspicuously absent from most television and radio information because it was a profiteering dynamo for the opulent elite in the usa
