Gordon Brown makes another promise of expanding the UK's police state, but leaving the million innocent people on the DNA database, and promises to expand the database.

In the example he gives of how the DNA database was useful, he says that a person was caught using the database. In reality, as he said, the man was caught after an appeal on BBC Crimewatch, so was not caught by DNA, but by someone recognising a photo or description.

Typical more New Labour lies about their ever expanding b@stard police state.

The UK's DNA database is the largest in the world, and larger than all the other 26 EU countries DNA databases combined. If that statistic doesn't frighten you, if bloody well should.

The UK police and politicians are corrupt.

  • I suppose the Government can justify just about anything with an argument like that!

  • The problem is, the man's arrest that Gordon raved about had nothing to do with the DNA database, he was found by an appeal on BBC Crime Watch. Not even remotely the same thing.

  • Goverments make money out of crime, or is it just serco ?

Every bit of liberty you take away, it takes away freedom, call yourself a socialist. crime will allways happen, so you create these societies and dump on them. your the biggest criminals and are full of s***...........

  • The police's ACPO makes a tidy profit from ripping off the taxpayers, and lobbying for laws the police want, like making it a crime to accidentally drop a tissue. New Labour and ACPO are in on the scam, and the poor innocent taxpayer picks up the pieces.

  • In regards to the student protests over the raise in tuition fee caps being back by Labour supporters who think no such thing would have happened under their government, and blame being pinned on Nick Clegg for supposedly lying since his policies were to scrap tuition fees, I have this to say: a lying Coalition is just about as bad as an HONEST Labour government. They wanted our freedom, but at least they promised us they'd take it!

  • @0613162k I agree totally, but what about people with minor spent convictions?

Shouldn't they have their DNA removed after a time period also?

If you receive a discharge or small fine for being drunk & disorderly, drink driving or, say, an environmental/wildlife offence, does your DNA need to be kept forever?!

Remember that the ECHR judges (which The Crown have so far illegally ignored) said that if a person is convicted, DNA should be kept for a time proportionate to the sentence they receive.

  • @liarpoliticians Brown said the DNA match identified the suspect, and Crimewatch was used to locate him.

But this was a very typical tactic of New Labour on the DNA issue - they would cite a solitary, one-in-a-million, extreme case, to shock and scare people into accepting their police state policies. Also, they'd have still found the match without an *indefinite* retention policy.

The Con/Lib coalition say they will adopt the Scottish DNA retention policy, but this still doesn't go far enough.

  • This policy of keeping innocent people's DNA is disgusting and distressing for any one who was has been fasely accussed, cleared as innocent and non charged, and then have DNA retained for more than 5 years making it look as if they're still a criminal. They're being affected psycologically and possibly careerwise as if they have a sentence when they're shown innocent. It loses trust in the government, police and criminal and justice system that seems to only make the innocent people suffer.

  • and on the subject of cherie antionette, Mrs Blair.

is this woman not a sitting magistrate !

who has just performed a crime for her husband !

she has shreded documents that would have shown that her husband is not just a war criminal but a real criminal !

because he gained or obtained a pecuniary or monetary advantage thru deception !

and she attempted to pervert the course of justice !

this woman will NEVER pass a sentence on me, without getting a hard boot in the vagina !
