Waku Waku Japanese - Lesson 3: Greetings

In this lesson of Waku Waku Japanese, Konomi teaches some of the basic greetings in Japanese.

ohayou (gozaimasu) - good morning
konnichiwa - hello (good afternoon)
yaho / yo - hey
yaho, genki? - hey, how's it going?
konbanwa - good evening
oyasumi (nasai) - good night
sayounara - goodbye
bye bye / matane - goodbye (casual)

So use these words to greet people!

  • is "ja" or "Ja ne" also a word for saying goodbye? 

  • @hyunakiro Yes, "jya ne" is a very casual way of saying "see you"

  • "Matane" Implies you will see that person again, right?

  • @baloon2510 Yes, matane is like a "see you later" and it's fairly casual

  • @deathkiller110 konnichiwa means good afternoon since there is no hello in japanese but although it is good afternoon you can use it anytime in the day!
