Amen to all that was said here. It is now 2011. Has anything changed in this regard? Are studio musicians now getting compensated fairly for their work in 'making the music happen'? I would truly hope so! An update is needed here on this site.

Anyone who has also watched Standing In The Shadows Of Motown would also agree it is the same thing. To see the Funk Brothers end up the way they have is a crime because we all know it was those cats who created that sound. Unfortunatley, I do not see congress giving a rats behind about this because it is all about supporting big business and monopolies.

Royalties, residuals for all in the mix/production! We as musicians should eventually have a copyrightable sound chip,a DNA type technology that encodes our very sound/style/technique,which is the value/worth we bring to the session. Have this GPS/DNA type info,where we could track it and delete it from a recording,if it is misused or if there are unpaid uses.I bet that would make all involved in the process reconsider their free casual use of talent.Talent is tangible & often taken for granted!

I myself am a musician..my father was a musician as well...in fact...it's safe to say we know Bruce from back when he and dad played with Ricky Skaggs. it would be nice to see my dad get what I think he deserves from his time making music.

there are musicians/artists like Johnny Paycheck who die penniless and cannot even afford their own funerals or even insurance coverage for that funeral. just imagine if you're broke but your stuff is still being played to this day...it would be nice to have that money.

Radio Stations may not pay to play an artist...but everytime you make that selection on the jukebox..you help the establishment owner pay the royalties to the record company who put that record out. also..everytime a show you view is shown...the performers in that show get paid (musicianally speaking). but do you see a dime for airplay of the song you played on? not really.

artists need to make sure the musicians on the record or on the video or dvd get paid for their time taken to create that product. if you take care of your band..your band will take care of you.
