Thanks Shawn! I love your enthusiasm for teaching the golf swing. I work in a golf shop and when I meet beginners or people wanting help with their swing...I try to pass on some of your analogies and recommend they watch your videos on youtube...I think much of what you are teaching is sound advise.
Hi Shawn I am the proud owner of your dvd,s but i am looking for some extra help in getting my right arm working, i play right handed but i am a left hander , sometimes i feel the right arm is just along for the ride, its robbing me of power. on wet day or slighty thicker grass i dont have the power to get through as i would like. I find if i really focus on my right arm i get the nice compression sound from the ball but i need something to get the right arm in the game. Many thanks Paul
Hey Paul; I understand completely and the key here is to feel that when you grip the club, that you now have a complete ARM-CLUB UNIT that hangs from the shoulder sockets; see "golf pro lesson grip awareness" and "golf pro lesson takeaway and starting the swing" this is exactly how the Great Payne Stewart did it; feel how when the right arm folds, it causes the wrists to hinge and that the arm unit LOADS UP LIKE A SLING SHOT! Shawn
Shawn, how do you know when you have finished your backswing? I feel if I rely on gravity and momentum only in my backswing, i don't feel like a make a complete back swing..it only feels like a 3/4 backswing if that..and in your demonstrations it does not look as though you make a complete back swing either but a 3/4 or less backswing...should there be consciuos effort to turn the shoulders a littlef arther to complete your backswing? otherwise i lkie your teaching style
Hey tshoey22! A complete backswing IS NOT A PARALLEL TO THE GROUND thing; a complete backswing means you FEEL THAT YOU CAN WHIP THE SNOT OUT OF THE CLUB WITHOUT USING MUCH EFFORT AND IS RELATED TO HOW MUCH TURN YOU HAVE IN THE WHOLE BODY. If you feel the need to push, help or shove the club through impact, then you are short of completing it; see also "golf pro lesson downswing weightshift"; Great post! Shawn
Hi Shawn just a quick question. How far into your backswing should your wrists be fully hinged and is there one particular video that describes it? Many thanks Stephen
Better than that Stephen; go to my "Golf Pro Lesson Perpetual Motion drill" and FEEL where the wrists hinge and unhinge when you COMPLETELY GIVE THE ARM-CLUB UNIT TO GRAVITY! Thanks for the question! Shawn
Does the right hand turn over the left just after impact or thru? Also, how much should it turn over? Obviously not overdone :) But is there a point you should checking? Sometimes I dont turn it over enough but I dont want to slap thru the ball either.
