Los Flamboyanes Bacalar

Bacalar is a small community about 3 hours south of Playa del Carmen and just under an hour from the Belizean border and is perched on the shores of Laguna Bacalar. Laguna Bacalar, known as the lake of 7 colors, is a fresh water lagoon that runs over 65 kilometers (40 miles) north to south, and is the same crystal blue as the Caribbean Sea. The town of Bacalar is a charming small town with plenty to offer. When you visit, or live in Bacalar, you will enjoy a small town experience. The local people are friendly and greet you openly with a smile and an Hola!, and you can find your fresh produce and groceries at the local country style market. Bacalar has a beautiful town square where you can sit and enjoy a homemade ice cream with friends old or new. On one side of the square you will find the old Spanish fort with cannons still pointed towards the water as they did when they guarded the lagoon from pirates. Laguna Bacalar is an inner waterway that was once used by pirates for shelter entering from Chetumal Bay.
