I took me a year of squatting going up 10 pounds per week to reach 500lbs. I am only a 185lb man. You can count 10 45lb weights, and the bar weights 45lbs. Actually 495lbs. I didn't want to go any higher because I was afraid I would break my spine.

  • For the record, I could do 400lb full squat for 3 reps at the time I did this 500lb partial squat.

And yes it did define the lower part of my leg more, and its alot harder than most haters give it credit for.

  • I accept.

  • Actually from all the studies that I have read, using both full ROM and partials help gain strength. Using partials help you muscles adapt to heavier weight. I can partially bench 700lbs. My full ROM bench press is around 500lbs. Using partials helped me break the 450lbs barrier that I was stuck on forever.

  • nice n does that really help u get use to heavyer weight? i do box squats it helps me get past the heavy weight better but if wat u says works then thanks for the tip

  • Pretty awesome for partials, but don't focus on them or you'll train yourself to squat higher normally.

How much can you do now?

  • THAT IS Y THEY ARE CALLED PARTIALS

  • im sorry to say bud but that is not a squat u need to get lower than that i seen guys taller than u go way lower than that.

  • learn how to do squats try box squats first

  • at best quarter squats but respect that you can control a weight so high above your real squat). Have you increased your lower thigh size considerably with it? I remember an article in a megaold mag (start of 70s), the guy did partials with 500 in the press, (his raw max full rep was 200-220). These days he can`t even hold his arms above his shoulders-his ligemants are worn out. Don`t overdo it.

  • I guess we all squat to get stronger overall legs, as well as more speed n explosivenss in the entire area. Partials do the trick, Universatile has a point that I agree would make most guys see red cuz its not the popular notion, but Partials work n work they do, anyone who has actually given it a try will vouch for that. as for other people, they dont even count till they try it themselves...

  • Full ROM is unnatural for the body. Humans didn't evolve to take their joints through full ROM while baring heavy weight. Think about it. Almost always, injuries occur in the weakest part of the rep, in the squat, when the knee joint is at or under 90 degrees. People push themselves in the weakest portion of a rep, when they should be pushing for higher weights in the STRONGEST portion of the rep.

  • Partials are so underrated. But if you only train full ROM you never train the strong part of the rep, only the weak part. How will you ever get stronger by training the weak portion of a rep? It's a law of physics. To train for strength, you have to find some kind of mechanical advantage. In this video's case, it's keeping the knee joint outside of ninety degrees. Has anyone else at 185 gotten up to 500lbs squat by using only full ROM? Where's that video?

  • i admire your dedication to an exercise that provides a fraction of the muscle building benefits of, and is often seen as a halfway attempt at doing, the full squat. I assume you're trying to get used to the heavy weights because you plan on full squatting heavy later on? If so then good luck.

  • I'll accept as well

  • At least you didn't call 'em full squats. Partials are good to help ya get used to a higher weight, but they're nothin' that I would video for youtube...

  • if your ssquat form was better than you wouldnt be able to squat 500 probably only 350

  • forget my last comment..I didn't know the title of this video is partial squat. sorry.

  • Hello there. that's not squat..I suggest you better watch some squat videos sir.

  • Whats the point of getting it used to a weight that will never be on your back.

  • I couldnt have done that. Good job and I respect ur decision to do PARTIAL squats as long as you call it that

  • Whats with all these jealous fucks here? The video is called "185lb man partial squats 500lbs x 6". He never said he could do 500lb ATG squats. These are partial squats which are effective during training if used the right way. Just like Paul Anderson, One of the best if not the best squatter in history. He used to full squat around 900lbs and do Quarter Squats with 1800LBS. Yes only quarter squats to get the body used to carrying big loads.

  • I dare any of you to try and take 500lbs off the rack. Yes my squad form sucks, get over it.

  • i aint trynna clown or nothin but those wont squats my dude... look like u was just jumpin wit the wieght.. but atleast u got it off the bar.. shit i wouldnt even be able to do that

  • Looks like you've got your lockout power sorted, now try actually squatting. As jonnywildboar said, go down until the crease of your hip is lower than your knees.

  • you post up vids - you godda expect flack - many of these guys couldnt unrack 500lb, and many may well squat it to parallel.

one night, when you have a few mins, slap 350 on the bar and squat until the top of the thigh is lower than your knee or your thingh bone is beyond parallel.

getting out of the hole is the toughest part of the squat.Keep goin mate
