I blame Akon. His music was awful to begin with, but in 2006 he started his own record company to support artists like Flo-Rider, Lady Gaga, and ruin Gwen Stefani with the Sweet escape. He also did lots of remixes that has morphed many good songs into club hits.

But ya I'm hoping this phase of music will be over in 5 years. We're gonna look back and be like: why the fuck did we listen to this??!

@SarahPatterson18 I think that kind of music that your talking of will hopefully fade to oversatration of the market and over use of autotune

this is early 2000 pop. very different from today's pop. had a rockish edge to most of its stuff. Just look at Usher, K-OS, Outcast, Britney Spears and the "Toxic Album" - (the height of her career) - and songs like "Rock Your Body" by JC or "My Humps" by the BEP (which was the last hit of that area of music).

The pop tunes you hear nowadays are reflections of techno-music (New BEP or Little Wayne). It's all about the "Dance Floor" in pop music today.
