Grand Gymnastic and Artistic Performance "Arirang" Given
Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- The grand gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang," Kim Il Sung Prize laureate, was given at the May Day Stadium Sunday evening before capacity audience in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea. Amid the playing of the welcome music, Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the WPK, chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, appeared on the platform of honor. The performance was watched by senior officials of the Party, the state and the army including Kim Yong Nam, Jo Myong Rok, Pak Pong Ju and Kim Yong Chun and delegates to the celebrations of the 60th birthday of the WPK, officials of the Party, military and power organs, social organizations, ministries and national institutions and working people in the city. Also among the audience were congratulatory groups of Koreans from different regions of the world including the congratulatory group of Koreans in Japan led by So Man Sul, chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, members of delegations of overseas Koreans and overseas compatriots who came to the homeland to participate in the celebrations of the anniversary. Present there on invitation were the Chinese government delegation led by Wu Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and vice-premier of the State Council of China, on an official goodwill visit to the DPRK at the invitation of the DPRK government, foreign delegations and delegates including party delegations from different countries, delegations and delegates of organizations for the study of the Juche idea, friendship and solidarity organizations, the chief of the Pyongyang Mission of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front, diplomatic envoys of different countries and representatives of international organizations here and other foreign guests. As the sun rose majestically over Mt. Paektu to the tune of the song "Arirang", a huge flower garden of fascinating and fantastic arts was presented at the stadium. The performance made an impressive grand epic representation of the majestic appearance of Juche Korea which has brought about a radical turn in hewing out the destiny of the nation and made a dynamic advance toward a bright future, demonstrating its might as a dignified powerful sovereign state and a bulwark of socialism under the Songun leadership of the ever-victorious WPK as it is blessed with the most outstanding and greatest persons in human history. The presentation brought the audience to a fantastic world as it was characterized by the refined artistry of the performers and a perfect combination of peculiar stage decor, a variety of electronic displays and lighting facilities. At the end of the performance, Kim Jong Il waved to the enthusiastically cheering performers and audience. He extended thanks to all performers, highly praising them for having made a truthful representation through the performance and strikingly demonstrated internally and externally the might of the single-minded unity of the WPK and the people and their invincible militant spirit.
