Here is a demo of my 1986 Marshall JCM 800 2205. I have it running on Tung-Sol EL34B power tubes and NOS National Yugoslavian 12AX7A preamp tubes.
The amp settings are:
Presence @ 3:00 o'clock
Volume @ 10:00 o'clock
Bass @ 2:00 o'clock
Middle @ 12:00 o'clock
Treble @ 11:00 o'clock
Gain @ 2:00 o'clock
Reverb @ 10:00 o'clock
I am playing a 2005 Gibson Les Paul standard direct into the front of the amp (no pedals). I am only using the bridge pick-up. The amp is running into a THD Hot Plate set to -8dB with the bright switch engaged. That is running into a 2x12 Mesa Rectifier cabinet.
I mic'd the cabinet with a Shure SM57 on one speaker and a Sennheiser MD421 on the other. The mics are running into an MBox 2. Both mics are running at equal level and summed into mono.
I am playing the rhythm part of a tune that I wrote. Tuning is D-A-D-G-B-D. Enjoy!

A nice overdrive pedal. I have played TONS of amps (Bogner, Engl, VHT, Mesa Boogie), and in my opinion nothing sounds better than JCM 800 cranked with an overdrive pedal in front.

What would work best to PUSH this into LEAD GAIN territory...sound like a great RYTH tone...but looking to get JOE SATRIANI out of one Im thinking on getting...Will it do it?
