I agree that the flex line will eventually become brittle. I also do not like the fact that the line is looping out like that. We do our installs this way though because it allows for the line to be tied up in the winter. If you tie in by the skimmer with a 3 way you can not properly winterize the line and take a chance on something busting by freezing. We do also have valves on this system to allow for pump basket cleaning without getting the water rush.

Eveything looks good but the plumbing on the main drain and skimmer, that flex hose after a few years will become will brittle in the sun. You should have brought that line out right next to the skimmer and tied it in with a 3 way valve. It would be a better set up, and look nicer. Also would recommend slice valves on the skimmer and return, so you can turn the water off when cleaning the pump basket so you do not go water rushing in.
