If it's of any help, I also got the E.R./P.T.LE a couple of months ago running windows7. After upgrading P.T.LE to 8.0.4. it worked great for many hours. Then I had the "no sound" problem. I called Avid, they "took control" of my computer, did all sorts of things in 3 calls and a couple of hours and at some point just said "it's the E.R. itself" and sent me another E.R. Nothing but very minor glitches since then. Don't give up! It's a powerful combination when working right! Good Luck.
Post #4 You will have also noticed the i/o and record paths etc. now have the proper names i.e. Main out L and R Rig Output L & R Mic in Guitar in etc. My problem arose because I had had an Mbox 2 PRO before i 'upgraded' to the Eleven Rack and all my old sessions contained the old Mbox i/o because i had that little box ticked !! Get rid of any duplicate i/o paths on ALL of your pages - they will be the ones named as per your original i/o from before you got the Eleven Rack Enjoy!!
Post #2 Go into the i/o setup page - then go to import settings button at the bottom and select the Eleven rack default i/o file Do this for every page - input output busses etc. All i/o must be the Eleven Rack default You now have the correct Eleven Rack i/o Delete any i/o paths you may have made also THEN (MOST IMPORTANT) DESELECT the tick box at the bottom of the i/o page which says something like "Current session overrides i/o settings" (continued on Post#3)
I had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM and figured it out myself!
Firstly there is NOTHING wrong with ANY of your equipment
What you have is an incorrect i/o setup which is being overridden by your session settings so no matter what you do whenever you open that session the old wrong i/o setting loads too!

Deselecting this tick box ensures that your i/o WILL NOT CHANGE
and all your Eleven Rack inputs and outputs will always be correct!
What you have been experiencing is a form of Digital feedback
- sounds AWFUL and is exactly what I had!!
Every time I selected Record I got this god-awful feedbacky/digital/horribleness
and worse still my recordings when played back were Left channel only and clean
(direct guitar sound only) I nearly went nuts trying to figure it out!
