[how to] Play Call of duty: Modern Warfare 2 LAN multiplayer offline!

A tutorial that shows step by step how to make one of your computers a hosting server for the game (local IWNet), and the other computers as clients connecting to the server.

This will allow you to have great fun with friends on a LAN party, without the need for alterIW.net's server to be online, nor having any internet connection.

Instructions:
1. (host only) download:
- IWNetServer.exe
save in the Modern Warfare root directory

- mp_playlists.ff
create a new directory called "PC" in the modern warfare root directory and save the mp_playlists.ff file there.

of just search Google for "download mp_playlists.ff".

2. Check out your hosts' machine's local IP address (and write it down).
I'm not going to explain how to do so in every OS, Google it out, it's not that hard ;)

3. (host only) Run IWNetServer.exe

4. (all) Edit the alteriwnet.ini file (using notepad) and change the server's address to the ip address of the host (you found earlier on step 2).

5. (host only) Start the game. Run iw4mp.exe and then click "Play - Private match" and set yourself the type of game you want. When done - start the game.

6. (clients) Start the game. Run iw4mp.exe and wait for the game to load.
Once the game is loaded, go back to the game console (alt-tab or whatever) and type "connect ip_address" in the console command line (the ip_address is the host's address you found on stage 2). e.g:
connect 192.168.1.7

7. Click on the game's bar (or alt-tab again) to re-open the window, and you're in!

8. Have fun and don't cheat! ;)

I try to run a mod via the console, but it doesn't work. (fs_game mods/RSE;vid_restart)

Please help, how do I get a mod up and running in a private server?

@mikej9853 No idea man... Does it happen only when you try to play LAN? Does the game run normally when you play online via alteriw.net's servers?

@RIntusubhasis Step 2 says you need to check the host's IP ADDRESS. The host is the one computer running the "IWNetServer.exe" file. Google how to find your local IP address if you don't know already...

@Dennis16779 Yes. You need all machines to run the alteriw.net's hacked version of the game (though only one needs to run the IWnetServer file).
