A review of the Lars Von Trier film, Antichrist.
Possibly one of the most challenging films ever to hit the screen, I review this film from the cinema screening, for the first time on this channel

  • This movie made no sense. It was just supposed to be a artsy and deep looking film that really didn't make sense. When the person who made the film was asked what did the film mean he even said he didn't know. It's a weird movie that would be interesting to watch while high but if at the same time it's a waste of time because it makes no sense and doesn't go anywhere.

  • @nowwithmorekick Von Trier is known as being a bit playful with the press etc. he's said all sorts of things that shouldn't be taken at face value. Kubrick was the same, he said 2001 was a film about nothing apparently

  • I just saw this movie and I went on youtube to see how other people felt about it. This review alone made me subscribe to your channel. You nailed how I feel about this movie like other reviewers haven't. I was pretty much nodding in agreement throughout the entire review, and had some things to say that I hadn't considered. So, yeah, subbed!

Also, I'm a fan of horror movies, which seems to be your forté.

  • @smaakjeks Thank you very much, I thought it's a pretty remarkable film, I gotta take another look sometime as this was written straight after my first viewing at the cinema. It'll be interesting to see if it changes on my second viewing. I hope you enjoy some of my other stuff (you may like my Eraserhead critique)

  • hope you don't mind me saying, that was an absolutely sublime review of what i believe to be one of the most original and well filmed pieces of work i have ever seen. well in sir!

  • @lukeycc67 Thank you very much for the compliment. :0)

  • Because the verbe is God. The Christ give us the verbe, and the nature is the "Antiverbe".

  • I don't rate any films other than in the nasties review, something I wish I hadn't started but I did it because I thought it would make it more accessible and now it's a matter of continuity in the series. Ratings are too subjective and blunt, I prefer my words to allow folks to work out what I thought of it.

  • @nowwithmorekick And Trier's comments make you incapable of coming to your own meanings HOW exactly? Believe it or not, you're not limited to a director's intended meaning (or lack thereof) in watching a film, if you're willing to be an active viewer.

  • @ZigZagRunner

Holy shit this, the only scene I liked was the fox one but everything seemed like they were playing with the special effects to see how creepy they could be for instance "TURN GREEN!" and then she was grass... There wasn't a whole lot to this film besides how much they could bend the effects to looking scary and actually making a scary plot

  • You're right. Antichrist is both repellant and sensational to watch. Maybe Von Trier wanted to elicit an outraged reaction so as to test the conventions of film or something? Maybe things don't have to make sense sometimes? Being mindful of this as much as the movie startled, gripped and at times degraded me I still sit marvelling at this vivacious piece of cinema. The themes of the film are latent and not that well explained. So I think there is underlying contextual analysis to probe

  • @nowwithmorekick It tells you at the beginning, depression, fear, therapy and anxiety. Even sin had a lot to do with it. Von Trier said at the premier the movie is about anxiety. He made it when he was extremely depressed and working with many different types of therapy. He wanted to bring that into the movie. He does do a few things for shock value but everything still has a purpose behind it. I suggest finding this from the criterion collection and reading the essay that was written about it.

  • Please do Melancholia!! I've just seen it..want to hear a good opinion

  • Everyone I know REALLY didnt like the movie...like AT ALL. I absolutely loved it. Great review :) x

  • You're reviews are great man....I'd love to hear your take on the movie 'Inside'...

  • @Japantiem The guy who written the movie in a QNA about the movie said when asked what is the movie about that he didn't know.He just generally was feeling depressed and written down his feelings and that even he doesn't really know what was going on in the movie and that it's up to our own interpretation.

  • @nowwithmorekick

There's tons of meaning behind this movie. Dig a little deeper than just biblical implications.

  • @ericmsandoval Well if you noticed in the end of the movie, Dafoe was shoving fruit into his mouth recklessly before all the women started walking up the hill. He almost looked like a caveman. Fruit is often symbolic for the uterus because it contains the seeds of life. To strengthen this symbol, the director decided to have a bunch of faceless women walking up the hill. It's supposed to explain the true nature of man. That we're just hunters driven for sex, and don't care for faces or identity.
