  • Hi spiderman 7488, just saw your commentary right now. I have been away from the channel for quite a while. In principle you are right. Especially when it comes down to a 3 minutes interview. But sociology as a science comes up with concepts about man and society, which have a structural influence on how goals in society are perceived. And Giddens as so many other scientist can't just switch to ordinary language when he does simpe Q & A. Smiles MIClimate

  • One of the most influential scientists in my life... Thanks for sharing it...

  • I am glad you like it. My main reason for doing these interviews is spreading the word.

  • its because they use different theoretical references for the simple things they say.

  • Thanks for uploading this interview. :)

  • Why does he talk in such a needlessly complicated way?

I think Sociology is important but I can't help from often getting the impression that a lot of Sociologists deliberately dress up their language because a lot of what they say is actually...well...pretty bloody simple!

  • Ok I'm just going to put this out there....isn't he just talking a load of academic jargon about things which, basically, are very simple?

Climate change isn't obervable so it's hard to get people motivated about dealing with it. Thinking of it in terms of left/right politics isn't helpful. War speed up development in lots of areas...

Lol. One gets the impression that if he (and many Sociologists) just spoke plainly then it'd be clear that it's all pretty simple.

  • My phd tesis is based on its ideas on

    his ideas on disembedding mechanisms.

I wish he could be my supervisor :)

Anyways, take care and thanks once more!
