@Diegoocordeiro PartR: ...aviators at the ACdeF were and such, something Archdeacon would soon regret. During the first week of Jan (1907), Dumont broke one of the cardinal rules of the ACdeF, during an interview in the Le Matin (Paris newspaper) Dumont LIED, claiming he and he alone had designed the 14bis. Three days later, Voison and Pelterie reputiated Dumont's false claim and Leon Delagrange (Pres of the ACdeF) set the membership for having Dumont ejected from the club. Archdeacon...
@Diegoocordeiro PartP: Because the "just" formed Federation Aeronautique Internationale was in attendence, they listed Dumont's 220m power hop as, not first flight of an HTA in Europe (the FAI listed Clement Ader's 14Oct1897 hop of 300m as the first), but the first flight they witnessed after their formation. Besides, Dumont's little hop was 80m shorter than Ader's 9 years earlier. Archdeacon on the otherhand, went crazy and went on an on, in the Paris newspapers about how great the French....
PartO: ..about 50m across the ground, but for the most part it was a failure. The first time Dumont appeared with the Voisin-Pelterie 14bis, the ACdeF "officially" classified it a "Type du Wright" for its obvious appearance as a Wright design. Finally on 13Nov1906, did have one power hop that went 220m (after 4 tries that day) and because this exceeded the 100m mark setup by Archdeacon, he (Archdeacon) had what he and Ferber wanted, something to overshadow the Wrights with, in the newspapers.
Amazing. Would be great if someone could colorize it and/or insert likely sounds. It seems amazing to me that there were motion pictures back in '03!
