  • was she only 19 in this video?

  • If i remember this interview is in the DVD 'A Portrait' as well. It's all about Hilary Hahn. Great DVD and very inspiring. And if I may add, you peeps should watch "From Mao to Mozart" if you haven't watched it. It would be very inspiring for all musicians here. :)

  • It is called "the DEVIL`s Instrument" because Paganini was known as "the one who has a pact with the devil". The german poet Heinrich Heine gives us a very interesting description of how Paganini was at the stage. He was also named as "the Devil" himself! So, the name of the video is like a "historical referencial nickname" to this absolutely beautiful instrument...

  • I don't think you'll mind listening to Elman either. He's got a signature tone that you can't find anywhere else.

  • LOL ... Gitlis ... but he is not french and has an accent while speaking french... he is israelian but nonetheless speaks french in the video. he must have learned french when he went to the Conservatoire de Paris and studied with Enesco and Thibaud.

  • Ivry Gitlis...I didn't know you could put on subtitles at first, so I just waited for him to finish talking all the time.

  • This interview is from the documentary "The Devil's Insturment." I have a DVD of it called "The Art of the Violin." It's awesome. I reccomend it!

  • There's a french guy and half the time you can't understand what he's saying. It features material of Elman, Paganini, and many others.
