Two sandwich shop workers are getting credit for saving a couple from an attack by thugs on the Southwest Side.
It was all caught on a security camera.
Chicago police say three men jumped the couple in the drive-up lane of a Mr. Submarine restaurant, 10509 S. Western Ave., early Sunday morning in the Beverly neighborhood.
The attackers demanded money and the couple's sandwich, but worker Ernesto Romero was able to pin one of the men against a wall while Romero's brother, Agustin, rushed outside and defended the couple until police arrived.
Arrested were Conor Heffernan, 24, of the 3000 block of West 98th Place; William Butler, 20, of the 9000 block of South Central Avenue, and Robert Heffernan, 20, of Kalamazoo, Mich. Each was charged with misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property, said Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez. They are scheduled to appear in court June 3.
The Chicago City Council plans to honor the Romero brothers for their actions.
