Another hymn set to an old Irish tune. I love it! This gorgeous hymn is also known by 'Be Thou My Vision". I heard this sung at Norwich Cathedral and it gave me chills.

Lyrics:

Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy,
Whose trust, ever child-like, no cares could destroy,
Be there at our waking, and give us, we pray,
Your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day.

Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith,
Whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe,
Be there at our labours, and give us, we pray,
Your strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day.

Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace,
Your hands swift to welcome, your arms to embrace,
Be there at our homing, and give us, we pray,
Your love in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day.

Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm,
Whose voice is contentment, whose presence is balm,
Be there at our sleeping, and give us, we pray,
Your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day.

  • Thank you for sharing this wonderful music!

    Be Blessed !!

  • @MrAnthonieify You're welcome! Likewise.

  • ..and to think that a long, long time ago, there was quite a debate about the use of music in religious services.

Where would religion be without these deeply touching sounds? Life is a dance. The music is therefore vital.

  • @foucle: I agree. It would be a bleak world without music in worship. Thanks for commenting.

  • This is one of the most beautiful hymns. I stood at the graveside of our child and sang this with my dear husband, children and friends 6 years ago. It is a hymn of trust and hope....it makes me proud of my Irish heritage and Catholic faith. May we always keep hope in our hearts.....

  • @KukanaOgilvie: Thank you for sharing that story. Blessings on you and your family. You're very courageous.

  • sometimes when it gets too much and life seems rough, i find my way back here and this song reminds me that everything is beautiful

  • this is my school hymn

  • @KukanaOgilvie i am desperately trying to find the vocal version of Daises are our Silver....etc etc..does anyone know where i can find this? i was spoken at my Nannies funeral as a poem but i know there is a musical version of it and i am having so much trouble finding it..any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

  • The traditional Irish tune is now known as "Slane".

"Be Thou my vision" is an approximate translation of the original Gaelic words.

  • @davidfrom1951 The tune is known as "Slane"

  • This hymn is NOT also known as Be Thou My Vision. That is a different hymn altogether. This tune uses the same traditional Irish folk tune, but with anacruses (lead-ins) at the beginning of lines 2, 3 and 4, which I think makes it even more beautiful than without.

  • @wampahoth thanks for sharing this video! this is one of my favorite hymn. i am getting married this fall, & want it included into the mass. what is the title of this version?

  • @foucle music is a tool that can be used to inspire both love and hate. It is powerful and long ago they knew this better than we do today. Listening to Justin Bieber makes me want to break every commandment.
