  • Hey guys, I'm a junior going Senior in a failing American schoolsystem who has never taken german but am taking a basic intros course to philosophy. I want to understand continental philosphy, do I have any chance to comprehend it, or at least it's prerequesites?

  • @bwzamie You don't have any need to worry unless German was indicated as a prerequisite for the course. You should be able to learn everything that you will need to learn from your teachers and by reading philosophy in translation. The video dramatises anxieties about philosophy and language for comic effect so don't worry about it, I'm sure you'll be fine. Enjoy your course!

  • @Redjavaad p.p.s. In order to understand the story of Abraham you must first fully grasp the complexities of the The Epic of Gilgamesh. Without a full understanding of the Epic of Gilgamesh you cannot properly contextualize the Genesis, which will leave you unable to appreciate Kiekagaard, leaving you woefully underprepared to properly interpret Heidegger, making your work with Derrida nearly impossible.

Of course, you will have to learn Sumerian.

  • Fucking love it. PS No one can read truly grasp Kierkagaard without a deep understanding of the story of Abraham. "Genesis" is foundational to "Frygt og Bæven", which is foundational to "Sygdommen til Døden" . Without mastering the classical exegesis of this text, you will never contextualize the subtleties of Kierkagaard, leaving you with out the insights from Heidegger that the essence of your work with Derrida demands.

Of course, you will have to learn Greek.

  • @bwzamie I think the above comment may have been a joke.

  • @bwzamie no.

  • THE REAL,UNREAL, THE IMAGINARY- bluh. Seriously, what does any of it even mean? I feel like an illiterate, mentally challenged peasant not worth the air he breathes for how little he understands and knows. I'm serious. What branch of learnings should I take to remedy this?
