"air quality in London is so bad and britain is so bad we are about to be taken to court by the European Commission" P1070578
What has Southwark Council done to monitor pollution recently? Southwark Council has switched off, closed and removed pollution monitors and monitoring stations. Roadside / verge passive monitors have been removed. London Air Quality Network Monitoring site Southwark 1 - Elephant and Castle was closed in Summer 2009 [Monitoring Dates: 01 Mar 1993 to 17 Jun 2009] and monitoring site Southwark 2 - Old Kent Road was closed in 2006 [Monitoring Dates: 03 May 1994 to 25 Jun 2006]. Simon Hughes MP is a Liberal Democrat.
Southwark Council is Liberal Democrat / Tory Council.
UPDATE 17 May 2010: Southwark Council is now controlled by Labour. Simon Hughes MP has been on TV a huge amount but they have not given him a ministerial job (yet). Despite all the talk the Liberals left 240+ homes on the Hawkstone Estate (and many other Estates in Southwark) to rot and remain surrounded by pollution. This is in contrast to money lavished on some blocks where their mates live. E.g. Moreton House or Pynfolds. The Mayor of London, Boris, seems not interested in the fumes, congestion, queues and particulates along the A200 and the Mayor's Office press on with plans to change Surrey Quays (Docks) into Canada Water Major Town Centre at a time of cuts in police budgets.
