This sounds quite noisy, even for a 78. Are you using the correct stylus?

This record ( like many I own) was rescued from the floor of a thrift store. It was quite a mess. Cleaning it was a challange. The surface noise is mostly from wear.

ciroalb3 , That's really interesting. I have to say I like this particular version for the over all feel of the track. I think the band is paying very close attention to each other. I'd like to hear the longer version.

Man I miss that sound of the static pops on some good vinyl. Can't beat that technology :)

Slam Stewart played on both versions so the basis of your preference makes no sense

Benny , Slam Stewart, Red Norvo, Teddy, Morey Feld.................almost don't miss
Gene and Hamp...........................I said almost. Benny always played with the best
and the music was always outta sight. Giants in the field................where are you guys when we really need you. Don't see anyone on the horizon yet................don't
expect to either.............(sigh). Well, we had you for a while. Just on loan.

Just for fun, I made a video (using this exact record) demonstrating the effects of different sized styli.
Mine was played on a Dual 1219, but your console unit is AWESOME!

Ok sorry, the particular characteristics of that noise just sounded as if an LP stylus was being used. But I suppose with major wear, it can sound like that even with a 78 stylus.
