I've never done it myself. Perhaps I should've said that I like the hat you wear at the beginning and the end of the video. Downside risk? What's that?

@Seattlecarnut Well, the "downside risk" is that if something goes wrong in the trailer, the person driving the tow vehicles doesn't know -- and vice-versa. In truth it's probably not that different from motorhome travel, but (whether we like it or not) most states have laws against people riding in travel trailers while they are moving. Anyway, it doesn't really affect us... if we want to rest, we just stop! :-)

I love the hat you're wearing at the beginning of the video. Although probably not recommended, I'll bet one could sleep comfortably in the trailer while the driver drove the truck. Just make sure everything is secured safely in their respective compartments.

@Seattlecarnut Thanks! That is an Argentinian "gaucho" hat I brought home from Buenos Aires -- my big souvenir! It's one of the few hats I really enjoy wearing (the other is my summer Tilley hat).

I know what you;re saying about sleeping in the trailer while in transit, but we've never done it. I think it's generally frowned upon due to downside risk. No worries, if we ever get tired we just pull over and take a break. :-)

I love to travel, although I don't have a truck, or even an SUV to tow the trailer with. I love Wally Byam's business philosophy regarding the Airstream trailer: "Do not make changes, make only improvements." If only every car company lived by such a philosophy, who knows what cars and trucks would look like.

@Seattlecarnut Agreed! What has made Airstream last over the years has been its adherance to Wally's original philosophy. The best stuff has remained the same. When you get an Airstream today, you feel you are tapping into history just a bit... :-)

regarding riding in the trailer... bottom line is, if you get into a serious accident your dead! trailers are not made to withstand impact and often rip or fly apart like a tin can!!
