Reggie Bennett from Mountain Shepherd Survival School teaches how to build a lean to in the wilderness. The main benefit of a lean to is that its open front allows you to keep warm with a fire.

  • I come from Italy and I've been getting more and more involved in wild life lately.. I am very happy and very greatful for your help and videos. I am experiencing nature as I never did before. My only question is, how do you do when it's pouring outside of your shelter and you want to prevent water from coming inside ? Thank you BobbysoFamous. You're great ;)

  • @DA88OR Thanks for the positive comment! Although I put these vids up, I don't teach the courses but maybe I can give advice anyway. The first to do would be to determine where the win is coming form, and have your opening facing the opposite direction. If the rain is really crazy, a lean-to might not be best, you may want a tepee or debris hut.

Just a quick question...Why not just turn it into an A frame? Wouldnt take much longer and sooo much better imo.

  • @tfun101 i think the main advantage of a lean-to is that you have space to sit up and do stuff, and you can also build a fire just outside of it and benefit from the heat while an a-frame has limited amount of open space exposed to the heat

  • wow! dude, i used to waste so much time just looking for branches with a Y shape to hold down the form but this is genius! :] thanks man, ive been in survival training since i was 15 but 4 years later im still learning some of the basics XD but where shud i go for 2-3 inch diameter rope? i tried canadian and theyre always sold out.

  • the rope we used is called 550 cord or parachute cord. it holds 550 pounds so it's strong enough for almost anything. ebay sells it really cheap, just make sure it's the real thing and not imitation!

  • This guy used plastic again for a shelter and it is starting to annoy me. he should teach us how to build a real lean to with all sticks and not just plastic.

  • i thought frapping was........ never mind.

  • im sorry to say this but youm used a plastic cover........i think thats cheating the hole part of living in the nature

  • this is a very good shelter ive seen it in my sas survival guide and you have done a great job with it but there is extras you can add down the side wich can be used to expand your shelter and store wood (for fire) and equipment.

  • k bar baby

  • You really need to edit your videos. Don't waste time asking questions and just explain why it is you're doing things as you're doing them. I could have explained how to build one, shown the process, and provided a clearer demostration by editing and simplifying the process. You don't need a LOG to build a lean-to. It is only a temporary shelter.

  • @freakshowaffair So WTF stupid ass. Should he spend 3 hours of the f****** class looking for poles? If you need that much instruction, then natural selection needs to be allowed to happen and you just die in the woods!

  • @freakshowaffair Your a tard. Its just an example of something thats real cheap, works great and is easy to carry in a kit. If you carry a first aid kit, some have a small tube of pat. jelly in them. The guy is a ex-S.E.R.E. instructor and he knows his shit.

  • he should do natural shelters. not this plastic bullshit
