Another Strange Sculpture at the University of Oklahoma

This sculpture is of three women who appear to be affluent ladies of the 1930s. Indicating OU president David Boren's contempt for women, the sculpture is named "The Gossips." Oddly, one of the women is holding a dead bird.

The name of the statue obviously trivializes women and indicates Boren's sexist attitude that only men talk about important things.

As for the bird, I originally assumed that this was a dead duck, but a friend has pointed out that maybe it is a dove -- the symbol of peace. That actually makes more sense, since as a U.S. Senator David Boren acquired many friends in the military establishment. Among his close friends are the Bush family, George Tenet, and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

In the video narration I mention OU president Boren's contempt for women. I also mention the fact that he resigned from the U.S. Senate in 1994, with two years remaining on his third term, for reasons he did not disclose to his constituents.

The reason for Boren's resignation was that he was being outed in the gay press and accused of sexually harassing his male staff members. Go here for documentary evidence.

Ok first of all I'm not going to tell you to keep your opinion to yourself, you're entitled to that just as everyone else, but I dont see why or how you try to turn everything on the campus to represent Borens views and the "fact" that he was in skull and bones. I am sorry Mr. Wright but I just didn't catch the connection between the Sphinx and death in this sculpture, is the duck supposed to represent death?

The bird IS dead. It is being held upside-down by the neck.

It was suggested to me that the bird might represent the dove of peace. As a U.S. Senator, Boren was very much a military hawk.

The OU "sphinx" has the exact physical characteristics of the demon of death in Greek mythology.

Your statement is nonsensical jibberish. What exactly is a "borderline fact" which is "only partly true"? Do you have any EVIDENCE to contradict any FACTUAL statements I have made about Boren? You also support your claims about Boren with borderline facts that are typically only partly true.
