Yasser Arafat was a Palestinian leader and chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), president of the Palestinian National Authority, and leader of the Fatah, which he founded in 1959.
Arafat spent much of his life fighting against Israel in the name of Palestinian self-determination. Originally opposed to Israel's existence, he engaged in peace negotiations with the state of Israel in the early 90s (mainly the Oslo Accords 1993).
Although he has said to have accepted Israel's right to exist, his actions show the contradictory and he most likely never changed his strategy, which was to destroy Israel and continue the terrorist attacks against civilians.

Hamas was supported by Israel when it first came into the scene in order to weaken Yasser Arafat's Fatah party. So if they are terrorists, then Israel supported terrorists at one point.

Arafat and the PLO entered the Oslo agreement in 1993. All quotations by Arafat supporting terrorism against Israel are from after this date when he were supposed to promote the peace process.
Don't get fooled by Arafat words - look at his actions. Arafat never changed his opinion, but remained the terrorist he always were.

@enevighet17 Israeli troops didn't leave Gaza until 2005. They were supposed to leave after the Oslo agreement in 1993. Don't be fooled by Rabin's words - look at his actions.

No, what you are saying is false. During the Oslo peace process, Israel transferred over 90% of the land in the Gaza strip to PA control. However, PA did not live up to its end of the deal, continued terrorism and Israel was forced to retake control. Then in 2005, Israel withdrew completely from the Gaza strip, dismantling all Jewish settlements.
