Greg Gagne is a former professional wrestler and is the son of the legendary Verne Gagne. The pushes he received while working for his father often led to claims of nepotism. Gagne defeated Adrian Adonis in a tournament to be crowned the first TV champion.
Adonis was killed on July 4, 1988 in Lewisporte, Newfoundland and Labrador while riding in a minivan with fellow wrestlers William "Mike Kelly" Arko, Victor "Pat Kelly" Arko, and Dave "Wildman" McKigney. Adonis, McKigney and Pat Kelly were killed when the driver, Mike Kelly, allegedly swerved in order to avoid hitting a moose and, blinded by the setting sun, inadvertedly drove into a lake. Mike Kelly survived, albeit with severe leg injuries. Adonis was tag team champs with Jesse Ventura,Black Gordman,Roddy Piper, Ron Star,Dick Murdoch,and he was named most improved wrestler in 1981,most underrated in 1982.

despite of his lack of "perfect" physique adonis was a great heel type of wrestler and a good or maybe great worker in the ring - his tag teams with dick murdoch and also jesse ventura are in my opinion great examples of good tag team chemistry

Lawndale1984, I agree with you 100% Gagne thought he could make a star out his son because he was the promoter, but he forgot that the fans were the ones who make stars, not the promoter.

I agree. I've been able to watch a couple of the AWA shows on ESPN Classic from about 1990. There was just nothing left.

Gagne, father and Son are solely responsible for the downfall of The AWA. his son is boring, boring boring. If this was real, Adonis would break Gagne in half. What a waste, Adonis gets ripped off.

I watch AWA on espn classic from time to time, and these last years are tough to sit through. This is actually one of the more entertaining matches from this period.
