Archive footage of Philly's premier mastering lab Masterwork Recording & Grover Washington Jr. in session @ Sigma Sound studios. Started as Frankford/Wayne in 1966. In 1986 Peter Humphreys (former Sigma Sound Studios engineer) and former (deceased) partner Nimitar Sarikananda, Peter made the move over to the mastering side with the acquisition of Frankford/Wayne Mastering Labs of Philadelphia (Tom Steele). At first in 1966 it was a part of the Philadelphia recording institution Sigma Sound Studios (Joseph Tarsia) --home of the famous Philly Sound and the writing/production team of Gamble & Huff. Peter landed a coveted staff position as recording engineer at Sigma Sound Studios, the virtual epicenter of hit record activity during the 1970s. Pete engineered for a steady stream of major label artists at Sigma. His credits include gold and platinum dates for Teddy Pendergrass, Lou Rawls, Phyllis Hyman, Billy Paul, David Bowie and many others. Video copyright 2006.

The end of a great vinyl mastering giant. This is just as sad to me as the day Gold Star Recording Studios in Los Angeles was raised.

I think Apexton/Underworld and Fourth Floor Records also used to get their records(at least some of them) pressed at F/W.

I own a part of this in the form of a Teddy Pendergrass acitate that was put up for sale in the early 90's. But anybody that has a Philly Int. record has a part of it too. Sad to see it all go - Job well done though guys.
