I dont have the Regza but mine is also a 40'' Toshiba LCD 1080P and it takes about 5-6 seconds before the actual picture comes on

Good. The SRT tech upscales it a bit, so it doesn't look to square and grainy.

Any advice? Just want this to watch tv (movies, news, sports, etc.) Don't need it for gaming or anything like that.

If you're not planning on watching blu-rays, don't get 1080p. Broadcasters go to max 720p/1080i (some exceptions, but rarely and distributors' tech doesn't go up to that...) so 1080 is useful only for BDs or Video Games. You can save a couple of hundreds by getting a, lets say, 42" Plasma Samsung 720p over the Plasma 1080p.

Talking about plasma, I would consider that over LCD. LCD is good for PC and Video games (due to it's matte finish and synthetic colors), but it lacks contrast, colors and a natural feel. Adding plasma 600hz for sports and action flicks, you're getting a way better technology for cheaper.

no real need to go over 720p if your not playing games or watching blue rays.. MUCH cheaper
