This is a trumpeter swan preening (grooming it's feathers) but it looks more like its getting its groove on.

oh they still do those! i don't see why they would put it around the neck. i think it would be really uncomfortable

Nice bird :), I was a little bit freaked out though when I thought I saw a coke can around its neck rofl

The bird is also wearing a leg band. The neck collar is an easily vsible mark ornithologists/birders can use to keep track of individual birds.
