On November 10, workers at the Palace Hotel walked off their jobs, announcing a 3-day strike and calling for a boycott of this hotel. Starwood Corporation, which owns the Palace Hotel, is using the current state of the economy as an excuse to slash their workers' health care and refuses to sign a fair contract. Workers are asking for a meager 1.5% increase from their previous contract to maintain their health care and pension benefits.

From 2006 to 2008, Starwood registered $1.9 billion in profits. In the first nine months of this year, it pocketed $180 million in profits and its stock price has rises 85% since January 2009. In 2008, supposedly a "down" year, Starwood CEO Fitz van Paaschen was paid $4.8 million. They have an obscene reason to celebrate, and we have a just reason to be in protest!
