Mission 13 - Project: Shantottofication - The two Shantottos, both desiring their own empires, team up to take down our heroes. As usual, the cutscene NPCs do nothing (Aldo and that Taru that sounds like Ned Flanders from the Simpsons). I'm 1/3 on the battle, and I cut out the slow parts (the initial buffing, and recovery) so I can get it to fit on youtube. If you notice, the hexes you collect during the last mission give you super powers, you get super stats (x3 HP/MP, well over +100 in stats, I think my totals were in the 170s or something), as well as a one time super Reraise without weakness. It doesn't give you full HP/MP, but it seems to restore it to where you normally would be. The SAM in our battle missed a hex on the way to the BC, and it was kinda the most important one (the HP hex is near a bunch of undead "Doom Toads" and Million Eyes in The Den of Rancor). So his HP was a lot less than it should be during this fight, that is why he went down so easily. But surprisingly, against my better pessimism, we managed to win the battle!
The plan was for one WHM/NIN to kite the Shantotto, while the DDs (me as BLU/NIN, WARx2, and the SAM) take down D. Shantotto while the WHM/SCH healed. We were to get up as soon as possible if we died, and try to zerg D. Shantotto when she rages at around 50% (she seems to work up to a rage, at like 75% she starts spamming WSs and spells, while at 50% she uses her unique WS, she can skillchain into darkness with her and Shantotto's WSs. Also, the shantottos' WSs can inflict plague (eats TP and MP), dia or bio (depending on whether it's Shantotto or D.Shantotto), paralyze, and silence. I have to spam echo drops at one point.
At the end, I intended to finish Shantotto with a big CA Vertical Cleave, but it missed, so I had to settle for one last disseverment. I HAD to get the last shot in, of course xD Thank you Burning Circle for a win, I haven't decided though what armor piece I want yet and what to augment it with. I'm thinking maybe ACC and Haste for SAM, but if I can get byakko's haidate, I'll have to redo the battle and get something else. Maybe if I can get PLD to 75, I can get +Enmity and Physical damage -4%.
Man, these fights seem so long but go by in a flash. It gets so tense that you immediately forget what just happens so you can just focus on the moment. It's an amazing sensation that only the players can feel. I can barely even remember my fight except we had two very amazing WHMs keeping everyone alive.
Oh btw, thanks for not changing the music like every damn FFXI video out there. This game has a killer soundtrack.

@Torusan In the past I've changed the music because half the songs in the "minor" battles are the same, but it gets to be a pain for me sometimes to change the music. But for this, I decided not to because the music in this battle is unique.

since I haven't PERSONALLY played XI, do pheonix down exist in this game too?

@Rikarikun they're just a crafting item in FFXI, there's no items that revive another person (like in traditional FF games), but there's items that all you to revive yourself if used before dying (reraise items), and of course there's spells that allow you to revive fallen comrades (raise spells).

@Sabishiikouen
so like kingdom hearts days in that concept of items?

@Rikarikun no idea, because I only played kingdom hearts 1 and 2 lol but it's an ingredient for crafting (plus they call it phoenix feather here). But down is basically feathers xD There is a newer item called a Scapegoat that uses a phoenix feather in crafting it, and when you use the scapegoat it gives you reraise. But I haven't played FFXI in a few months to be honest, I quit for WoW (which has rare phoenix mounts and stuff lol)
