A custom designed welding cell utilizing a 6-axis robot and a cam-controlled welding torch exploiting the strengths of each. The cam-controlled torch features adaptive part length gauging and is used to apply a 360 degree weld simultaneously with the robot. The robot is also used to weld a hanger rod to a pipe. The application is an automotive exhaust assembly with an inlet flange, two pipes, resonator, and hanger. The cell also features an automatic part unloader, which deposits the weldment into a leak test station.
