Acker Bilk PJB 1958 Perdido Street Blues: originally issued as an Ep and LP "Mr Acker Bilks Lansdowne Folio" and repeated on some reissues including "Compact Jazz Best Of Dixieland " a typical example of the best of Mr. Acker with his modified and extended but still classic band. Perdido Street Blues: appears to have been composed by Lil Hardin (Mrs Lillian Armstrong) she recorded is with the New Orleans Wanderers in Chicago July 13 1926 session for Columbia Records. Armstrong himself was unable to appear since he was under contract to Okeh - New Orleans Wanderers was the name used by Lil Hardin but it was really the famous Armstrong Hot Five but without Armstrong whose place was taken by George Mitchell on cornet. Additionally an alto sax was included—probably "Stump" (or "Stomp") Evans. Track 02 of 12 The Band: Acker Bilk Cl; Colin Smith Tp; Jonny Mortimer Tb; Stan Grieg Pn; Roy James Bj; Earny Price Bs; Ron McKay Dr. Submitted by ULAJAZZ
