I'm really confused about the 350% statistic. I checked the American Hospital Directory, a source cited in "part 1," and it doesn't cover what any hospital charges minorities vs. whites, or insured vs. uninsured.
The 350% markup claim is repeated several times on wherethemoneygoes, for several different hospitals, which leads me to believe it's a general condition of our flawed healthcare system.
That sounds about accurate, and horrendous, but we can hardly blame Obama for that.
Maybe, but does that excuse the misleading statistics?
Since the producers of this video have done no research on what people are charged at University of Chicago Hospitals, it's possible (though unlikely) that the opposite is true: that uninsured patients are actually charged less. In that case, he'd be doing exactly what he's saying.
But leaving that unlikely case aside, this claim is still something like the claim that Obama's contributed to global warming by driving. Or breathing.
