  • The kid with the flaming red hair never knows when he is out of tune

  • really? cuz i heard he teaches little kids which end of the sax to blow thru. haha.

  • awesome, do you have any tips on performing this quartet i have to play it in some chamber concert

  • yeah sure. i'll just write down stuff as it comes along in the video:

-keep the concert F's in tune (alto and bari's D, tenor's G). the song starts off in that key, and it's a pain for saxes to keep it in tune (concert C can be hard too (A and D " ")).

-then it switches to Db, so watch the key signature, specially if there are unison lines together

-1:35- the 32nd notes can be really hard

    -keep chords in tune

-this is a rag song, so everything should be played very short (unless otherwise told)

  • DYNAMICS????

  • This is a rag. It's not really supposed to "groove" like a jazz piece.

Great job! I was just at a band camp where I played this (I was on alto 2), although we played much slower since we only had 4 days to learn it :)

  • Very nice! I'm playing this for solo&ensemble this year and i have the bari part. XD

  • you guys are awesome !

  • this has got to groove more

  • i will be playing this song in an ensemble as well that at a compitition and im extremely excited (i play the tenor sax)

  • absolutely amazing!

some kids at our school are doing this for solo ensamble and every time you hear it it gets stuck in your head and it makes you want to dance, 5/5 stars!

  • Guys... Great Job! We played this back in 1993/1994 (in high school). We got a *1 at the state competition. I've heard many variations of Mississippi Rag and this is closest I've heard it to the way we played. We enjoyed playing it more of a swing style, which people loved. I was the bari sax player... and I was a bit different than most... wasn't afraid to play my part. Let's just say that you knew I was there.

It's always fun to hear it again!

  • haha i love this peice ^^

i was at my school consert the other day and one of the bands played it, i wish we got to =P
