After landing at CFB Trenton, Private Alexandre Péloquin of the 3e Bataillon, Royal 22e Régiment based at CFB Valcartier is driven by police motorcade along the Highway of Heroes (Highway 401) on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 4:19 p.m. EST.
Private Péloquin was killed during his first tour of duty in Afghanistan when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated during a foot patrol in the village of Nakhoney (Panjwai District), fifteen kilometres south-west of Kandahar City at around 9:20 a.m. Kandahar time on June 8, 2009.
Private Péloquin was on a 6 day mission to root out IEDs with his battle group. During the mission, Canadian soldiers removed raw materials which could have produced hundreds of IEDs. A total of 15 IEDs were also destroyed.
Péloquin grew up in Brownsburg, a village located 75 kilometres northwest of Montreal, Québec. "He said he never saw anything so beautiful as Afghanistan," said his grandmother, Rita Moore Péloquin.
This video was taken at the Collins overpass in Scarborough. Many Canadians, including numerous Veterans turned out to pay their respects to this fallen Van Doo soldier, who was just 20 years old when he gave his life fighting for Canada.
