It's sad that Marshall Field's and Carson Pirie are gone, but at the same time I could never find a reason to go in there. They just didn't carry the kinds of products I was interested in.

I just stumbled upon this video by accident. Pretty tragic. I went to the School of the Art Institute and during the winter I would cut through this store. It was broken up into two buildings with an alley in the middle. You would pass through two automatic sliding doors and would suddenly be in this very gritty Gotham City-like alley and then all of the sudden, back in the glossy department store. Carson Pirie I'll miss you.

It was tragic that a Loop department store with so many potential customers living and working near it was so poorly patronized. There isn't a store on State Street that was around when I was growing up in the 60's.
