How are you going to build your Melaleuca Business? Signing up distributors is not the solution to building a huge downline in Melaleuca. Yes you have to be able to sign up distributors in order to build a team but if you want to take advantage of best part of Network Marketing, the residual income, then you need to become a leader.

Becoming a leader in Network Marketing is no different than any other aspect of your life. Leadership is an action. It is not a position. If you look at the leaders in Melaleuca, for example, they are not leaders because of the position they are in, they are leaders because of the action they took to get to that position.

I dont know how many times I hear people say Id love to have a downline like they have, then Id be a leader. Wrong. Their downline did not just happen. They took action, over and over again on a consistent basis over some period of time in order to lead that team. The position someone has is really just a consequence of the action they have taken.

Qualities of Leadership

1) Responsibility, If it is to be, then it is up to me. The first step up the mountain is realizing that you are the one that needs to make it happen. You need to own your success. You need to make sure that your success is not dependant on anyone.

2) Listening. You have got to be the type of person that truly listens to what people are saying. In order for them to follow you, they have to see you as a solution to their problems.

3) Valuable Service. The service you provide needs to provide value for people. If there is no perception of value, people will not buy. Ever. The only time people purchase products is if they perceive a value in the product. The only way people sign up with you is they perceive a value in your service. When someone around you needs help with a situation, are you the first person to step up and give them a hand or not. Willingness and a desire to genuinely help others without receiving anything in return is the mark of a true leader. It is a rare person.

4) Consistency of Good Habits. The vast majority of people have had moments in their life when they were in a zone; everything went right and they felt on top of the mountain. The problem is that life kicks us in the shins all the time. The difference between someone that succeeds and someone that doesnt is that the leader has developed great habits and uses them everyday consistently. Small differences every single day lead to huge differences over the long term

5) Heart. Good leaders have to have heart. Heart is a difficult thing to define. It is a combination of courage, sensitivity, and inner knowledge and trust in yourself. It begins with you knowing without a doubt in your mind that you will get to where you want to go. One of my favorite quotes is from a great coach and mentor, Mr. Jeff Combs. His team in MLM had over 20 people that were earning a 6 figure income in his downline in a two year period. Someone asked him, Where did you find all these great leaders? His answer was, I became a great leader and they found me.

Talent is truly overrated. In order to succeed in life you have to be able to get comfortable getting uncomfortable. You have to embrace and anticipate change and love it. That is difficult for many people to do and they stay in their comfort zone. If that is you, then you need to make a change or success will be difficult to achieve in the long run.

With regard to network marketing, and specifically with marketing on the internet, you have got to learn to develop that leader within you. If you could have an online marketing system that teaches you to develop those skills and pays you while you learn, that gives you the best of both worlds.
