  • Not only do you have a right to be happy, you have the responsibility to be happy. Everyone has a god given gift to give the earth, a gift for which everyone is better off for it being given. This gift is being given when you are doing something that makes you happy - not something you hate doing. Each person is not entitled to being given happiness from the outside in, from others. Each person has the right to take responsibility for their own happiness, and to help from others getting there.

  • Most of these rightwingers (especially Americans) have been brainwashed by their ruling classes into thinking that Communism is what Russia and China had, with dictators, secret police, folk dancing etc. That conception has existed since 1929. But if they read Marx they would not recognise those countries in his writing ! It is closer to the US Declaration of Independence in spirit. Marx wanted communism for rich and democratic countries, not weak poor, dictator-ridden backward ones !

  • This guy is a ****ing idiot.

  • @usthepeople i heartily agree with you. and this coming from a libertarian.

  • @mixmastermeeks So how come we don't have the same things as these other western democracies? They have universal health care, equal if not higher standards of living, fewer people incarcerated, lower crime rates, less inequalities of wealth, a stronger societal safety net, etc. They also have more than two political parties including socialist parties. How would you account for that? So even among it's own peers, the US is found lacking. Your neo-Calvinistic views notwithstanding.

  • @mixmastermeeks with let's say Paris Hilton? If you want a concrete demonstration of inequality in this society, go down to your local courthouse and watch "justice" in action. On a consistent basis, the poor and middle class are at a distinct disadvantage against the state or someone who can afford top legal counsel. Take a look at your government; who writing the laws? Do you think that the'yre being written with your interest in mind? Do you believe that you can run for public office?

  • @mixmastermeeks For your first statement; Wow! you go a long way for a non-sequitur argument. Ruling elites can be of any religious denomination or ethnicity. The argument would be the same whether it's here or Argentina, Haiti, or South Africa. The common denominator is economic power, wealth and political influence. I would refer you to a book titled "The Irony Of Democracy". You postulate that all things are equal-they aren't. Do you believe that within this economy you are on equal footing

  • @mixmastermeeks You're being obtuse. The study of history gives the greatest benefit to those who study it. Think of Santayana's saying about the mistakes of history, and you'll understand. All Capitalism is in essence, is a series of legal conventions and customs. As they become unworkable to the society at large, they will be changed, thus be transformed. Even the Declaration Of Independence refers to that concept: "When in the course of human history..." Exactly what are you defending?

  • @mixmastermeeks "The labor theory of value is bunk" You mean in your own humble opinion. "The Declaration of Independence did'nt establish Capitalism" I never said it did, but how many Black people, women, Indians and non land owning white men were at the Constitutional Convention in 1789?. The ones that were there, thats your ruling elite. Many provisions of the Bill of Rights werent enforced until the early to mid 20th century, Miranda warnings weren't required until 1965. BTW, it's SYRIA.

  • @DAngelo136 And again, being an American (or anyone living in a Western Capitalist Democracy) carries more benefits than any other system in the world. Whining about the "elite" is just a way to either: 1. excuse your lack of achievment or 2: a way for someone living in the most free and most prosperous society in the world to display their moral virtue without actually having to do anything.

  • @DAngelo136 For example 3 out of the last 5 Presidents grew up in households that were at or below middle class status. Reagan grew up poor. Clinton was Middle class, and so was Obama. A good portion of the people in the "top 10 percent" this decade will not be there next decade. There are families and individuals who manage to stay at the top but they are the exception...not the rule. Your ideas are based on fallacies and misconceptions. Starting with the Labor theory of Value.
