On my latest trip, after two hours of driving my MPG counter settled on 37 MPG. I have been trying to push it up for months now, it started at 31 and due to tire changes and better driving it is up to 37. Next I am going to be adding a bigger intake to see if I can make it hit 40.

As for the truth of the computer reading it, due to my own math when the tank emptied I had 37.4 MPG.

  • if u hit the reset button on it down a hill u can get 95 mpg lol. best i get on daily drivin tho is around 28. worst is 14 but i drive like an ass. one tank normally last me around 304ish miles

  • Haha yeah, if only it would stay at 99.

This was after 2 hours of driving, so the 37 was pretty clear (plus I ended up getting over 400 miles on that tank of gas).

  • how do you get yours to show your mpg? mine only shows how many miles i have until i have to get gas...full take is about 250-275 miles before fill up again

  • I click the select button or whatever... it is probably an option, so all cougars may not have it.

  • your mean...what year is it?...mines 01...i get like 28 on a good day...all i drive is hwy and its on 60mph...wth are you doing?!...

  • Mine is a 2000

I have performance street tires inflated to 40 psi (43psi max), and keep it at 55 mph.

I also have a magnet on the fuel line... which seems to add 1-2 mpg.

  • @pjoduo

i read that fuel line magnets are inneffective.

  • Kudos to you. I'm picking my cougar up next week, so i will have my stock 0-60 run on it, i'm estimating 10 seconds to get to 60.

  • Hard to keep it on 55mph in such a fun car.

  • no its standard on 98-02 cougars

  • mine gets 18.7 mpg
