Awesome video and oven. I'd built a rocket oven over the summer but my design is quite a bit different. How hot are you able to get this oven that you've built?

This is a really impressive and simple design... The stove in particular is a proper real world solution... We have attempted to recreate an oven based on the design demonstrated in this clip and the link to "rechoroket"... Super information and super clear... Thankyou Jon and Flip for sharing this video.

We have cooked nearly 100 pizzas in our oven since building it in May and we have cooked various others things as well. It works incredibly well. With a properly tended fire the oven gets to 500 degrees F in 15 minutes. We put a chimney on it for more draft to up the temperature and used it as a kiln and got the temperature to 1200 F but then the door started charring.

Wonderful design and presentation!
What were the molded skirts made of in your initial kiln design? Did that design reach a temperature high enough to properly vitrify those pottery shards? I have an interest in trying a rocket-pottery kiln.

@thedrylandfish Search on Picasa for Molded Clay Pot Skirt For A Mud Rocket Stove for photos with captions of how we make the skirts. They are 50% organic matter and 50% clay. With the inverted molded skirt kiln I know I got over 932 F as it was hotter than the range of the thermometer I had at the time. Judging by the orange glow it was probably around 1200 F.
