An 80" span piper cub, converted to AXI Brushless - lipo power - uses a Canon EOS 400D DSLR to take hi resolution stills - and a wireless video camera to let me see what the camera is seeing. visit www.pelicanstudios.co.uk/pelicam for more info, sample images & video taken using this plane.

  • I'm from Malaysia & I am a part time photographer & I'm interested to start an RC aerial photo business after I saw this video. How much do you charge a client for the aerial photo session?

  • Hi, depends on location & brief but I charges vary but you could charge anything from £250 to £500 per shoot depending on your kit and quality of final images but you shouldn't be shooting on anything less than a 10MP Digital SLR to expect these sort of fees. Hope this helps - also you have to think about insurance it usually two people on site to fly safely so lots to think about.

  • good vid. perfect weather.you must be a resident at woolich arsenal?

  • Hi, Not a resident, the developers are a client of ours and we were doing some work here at the time. - just got very lucky with the weather and wind direction.

  • The qaulity from the wireless video is amazing,no drop outs.Would be very greatful if you could let me know what make/set up tiy were using. Also what did you record the downlink video onto?

  • Hi Steve, This plane uses a finepix s5600 to take the videos and a Canon 400D to capture hi res sill images - this system also uses a wireless micro video system as a viewfinder for the DSLR (Pro X2) 2000ft range! so the video is captured on board and not a recording from the wireless camera, which does have refresh issues and drop outs - but on the whole is very good - has a long range but very directional! imported from Australia to get the range.

    hope this helps

  • Hi there,

I'm surprised that I only found this footage today! Very impressed with the flying skills and the great opportunity to shoot in the area you were in!

Do you remember or have a record of what the plane setup was at the time? A 2m cub sure sounds quite impressive! ^__^

    all the best!

  • Ok I get it,thought the quality was way to good for a wireless. You just used the hi-cam video as a monitor, very clever.I used to live in Beckton near to City Airport, brings back all the memories!

  • Hi Mike22,

No they didn't, but flying this close to city airport was a little concerning - but all was fine and no problems, just inquisitive by standers. thanks for comments
