That kind of music arrived thans to the Austro-Hungarian army to Mexico. Remember that poles, checs, slovenians, etc. etc. were part of a great empire and borders did not coincide with nationalities.
The fact is that many polish, checs and other central-European guys became Mexican because of that and brought with them the love for beer and polka.

I think the inclusion of the violin gives it a mariachi "flavor" because most of the mariachi bands I've heard always had a fiddle.

The band sounds Slovenian to me.

I always thought this song was written by Frankie Yankovic but I'm probably wrong. His is probably the most famous version in the USA.

there's no need to offend, in northern Mexico, we dance polka, I know it came from Europe, but it's still part of our roots, I love it altough it's not original from my region, I'm so glad french and german people came to my beloved state to transmit this to us, and in fact it sounds so mexican, look it up
